We all face racism, but at what cost?
I mean life's hard enough when you get blinded by some dental floss/
Some people say we hate them, but for?
Just cuz a few of us followed them in their own store?/
People wanna come and say ching, chang, chong
How bout i come up and say sam, james, john/
Asian isnt a language, aint as simple as it looks,
our cultures bout more than just some calculus books/
and in case you worried, I'll just let you know,
We are not all masters of tae kwon do/
if you think the things were saying isnt right,
then you come to the stage, and you can grab the mike/
And man we aint all nerds, you know what I mean?
Yao ming jackie chan, hines ward bruce lee/
And dont go thinkin that our life was all just handed
simply from the fact that my eyes are slanted/
we arent all rich, we have poor,
we'll be your doctor, and sweep your floor/
we make your shoes, we make your phones,
for 2 quarters an hour, and you take that home/
So we arent all the same, idk what you seein,
its hard to be chinese, when youre actually korean/
see people gotta stop the prejudice, tellin me what I am,
cuz my roots got planted deep, from the US to Japan/
Yellow is not a race, neither is black white or brown,
Do different things not grow, from the same colored ground/
So this here then, raises the question,
do people think we stop, just at our complexion?/
Change the image, dont take steps back,
Thats how you go about bridging the gap/

Imagine if you will a giant wall - a divide/
Not the Great Wall, but close enough, now close your eyes/
And visualize life: the wide screen version/
A simplified sample of a sobering excursion/
Being Asian is difficult; its a gift and a curse/
And Ill tell you how it is, but take your shoes off first
My entire life Ive spent so much time/
Trying to find and define a place to call mine/
But time flying by shows the facts of social climbs/
Cant redefine the fibers of refined hate crimes
How could anybody suffering through the hands of oppression/
Be completely insensitive to my mothers tribulation/
Her struggles and depression/
Being Asian is more than just a simple kung-fu, anime obsession.
More than Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jet Li/
More than fake Asian tattoos, soju, and Chinese food/
More than sushi bars, Hyundai cars, Asian pop stars, and FAR/
Were designing and manufacturing everything you see, upholding traditional and modern cultures that be, and getting into your prestigious universities absolutely free.
This is not a poem asking you to rise up for an Asian invasion/
Its the declaration of a personal revelation/
A realization that I have a chip on my shoulder/
The size of 18 years of underrepresentation.
For too long has every Asian ethnicity been labeled a chink/
As many people as they have, were actually not all Chinese/
And if you think I dont have soul, take a second to think/
Where the hell I was born, please guess with ease.
So lets stop discriminating with these incriminating labels/
Eliminating the hating, rehabilitating the bleeding/
Taking away the waiting of a world in which society is stable/
Stating caring remarks instead of instigating the hating.
So perhaps, in conclusion, the solution to societal evolution begins with the institution/
I challenge you to reach beyond your comfort zone/
Get to know those people that dont exactly look like you/
Create bonds that youd be willing to die for/
And then live for them.
