My deaf cat Mekka loves to be petted, he just has a funny way of saying "more! more!".

  • That's amazing she lived 18 years! Mekka was born deaf and we had our own sign language..and would close his eyes if he wanted to ignore me. He actually passed away almost 1 1/2 years ago at the age of 12. He lived a wonderful life and I'm positive your cat lived the same :)

  • haha aw i have a deaf cat too and looks excalty like mekka. my mother jokes that she's the only hearing one in the family because I am deaf, and my brother too. my cat DK, or deaf kitty for short is extremely loud too with meow that sounds like wailing or a siren. but we love her to death and she is very needy, follows us around, meows at random times.

  • I really enjoyed your comment. some people just don't understand. they think i'm being mean to him but he loves it! i play with him all the time, try to get him to meow..sometimes he hisses and spits! its soooo funny. he's not really mad, we're just playing. at night when everyone's asleep, me mows..such a funny meow. its like "I'm lonely...someone let me chase you..". he guards my bedroom and sits right outside the door. its funny. :)

  • Hi, I owned a Deaf one for 19yrs. She passed last year. I just adopted another Deaf cat. I heard him hiss in video. Hissing in a cat means 2 things. They are angry or afraid. He seems angry to me. Loud or constant meowing means he's lonely, anxious or bored. He is rubbing up against your leg to greet and welcome you. He may be asking you for more then just petting him. Does he gets 15 minutes of play time (excercise) everyday. Take care.
  • Hi there,

yep, being owned by a deaf cat is absolutely different, isn't it? Mine is almost 11 years old. his hissing and spitting and meowing at me is just his way of communicating with me. he does meow in the night looking to play with the other cats, and he definately gets more than 15 minutes of attention and play a day! :) when he doesn't want to be petted he lets me know, but he does love it. don't let his hissing fool you, he's not angry or afraid. he's just my little punk. :)

  • 11yrs. is a long time.

    He is one lucky cat.

I still miss the deaf one i had for 19yrs.

All those years you would know your cat for sure.

I just felt sorry for him after i saw the video here. lol.

Guess he has been doing this hissing and crying for some years now right?

You have other cats? And are they younger then him?

Hope to see a video of Mekka playing one day.

  • I do have 2 other cats that are related to him, but not deaf. i have another white one with lime green eyes and i have a siamese with crossed eyes! lol please don't feel sorry for mekka. trust me, he rules this roost, for sure! lol :) plus i live with my mom and she has 2 cats as well. they're all girls, so he's the only boy. he gets so spoiled! he's got at least 4 different beds around the house and he plays all the time, if he's not sleeping or eating! lol

  • my cat (non-deaf, still living) is 22 years old and his hearing is slowly fading :(

  • I had a cat that was white, and towards the end of her life, she was blind and deaf. She was 18 years old when she passed away from old age :(

  • Your neigbors must love your pet. :')

  • @dragonflymoon525 I have two cats and they guard my bedroom when i sleep too x3 but they arent deaf

  • @boshkaly It's just because she's two months old, lol. Kittens are like little kids, they have tons of energy. The way to see if your cat is deaf is to do tests and see if she responds to noises.

  • i need a help my cat cant hear , shes just 2 month old yesterday i got her but i dont know what to do with her she doesnt sleep SHE ALL THE DAY PLAY AND PLAY maybe shes confused cuz she cant hear ? anyone can give me advice ? thanks alot !

  • Hahaha! Oh, the thoughts running through his head...

"God, why won't she stop?? I mean it lady, okay, I'm drawing the line! At least, I will in five more minutes..."
