  • Jammer dat het vanuit de hand gefilmd is en niet vanaf statief : het beeld trilt te veel en de belichting is slecht.

    Jammer !!

  • dat is logisch, daar het gefilmd werd met een FOTO camera

  • @fudgebaker Maybe you & I were not speaking of the same place. The equipment I saw was in wretched condition. Steel plates looked like they had been exposed to salt water, were peeling & literally coming apart. Something you would see on an ocean dock!

Congratulations on your volunteer work. Better you than me!

Restoration of steam locomotives on railroads are never going to happen. Better chance of electrification. Boilers would be fixed location to produce electricity by turbine generators!

  • @Cockroach2008

Whatever, I'll let you stick to your story. But why did you have to lie in your first post? I do volunteer work at the place where a few of these steam locomotives are, and the are not in bad shape at all, they never were!

  • @fudgebaker What ever the response, it doesn't matter. The steam locomotive is NOT COMING BACK! The longer service life is because they are heavier; because of it's pressures. Not a compromise, a looser! All available technology employed, boilers are too risky in a movable device. The soot pollution will not be tolerated. Diesel is lighter weight. Rail replacements use lighter rail & bridge refurbishings are not specified for steam locomotive weight.

They are gone! Never to return! Junk them!

  • @Cockroach2008

The costs of maintenance is true, it's higher, but their economical lifespan can compromise that. A steam locomotive's lifespan is 30-40 years (longest was 70 years), while a diesel's lifespan is only 10-20 years. Operating and liability, with the technology of these days we could improve that a lot. Community dislike: That's just the smoke that they dislike even though the "smoke" is 90% steam in a cooled form, diesels put out more. Heavier weight: The rails are still the same!

  • @fudgebaker Nothing to worry about! That was an empty rumor brought up by some steam locomotive admirer! The railroad officials heard it & laughed their heads off!

The cost of maintenance, operating, liability, community dislike, high risk, heavier weight on today's rail, bridge infrastructures. Most of that infrastructure was replaced long ago with lighter gauge designs. It would not bear the heavier weight long. Too many problems with steam locomotives!

Junk them! Cut them! Melt them!

  • @Cockroach2008

Listen here mister, If it keeps going like this the tides will be turned. With the increasing oil prices, gas and diesel fuel get more expensive. Some railways have already brought up the idea to use steam locomotives again! Coal, in comparison to oil is dirt cheap! So if the prices keep going like this, steam locomotives may return!
