  • Your supposed to put a cap on the airlocks just to let you know

  • @405OklahomaBrewing I'm allowed to do whatever I want! Caps on airlocks aren't that important if there's vodka in the airlocks! Where's the cap at a brewery when the ferm tank is blowing off into an open bucket of iodophor water?

  • thanks for the videos - I love the non-maniacal approach to brewing. It makes it much more accessible.

    I've got a few questions:

I didn't see you strain the hops from brew kettle - did you, or is there a false-bottom in there? What do you feel about using a mesh bag?

Your sparge water is in a standard, uninsulated bucket. Do you put it in there at 170 ? or higher?

Do you use bleach-water to sanitize the tubing used to fill your fermenters as well?

    thanks much again.

  • 1. Mesh bags are good for whole hops. For pellets, I don't bother straining.

    2. Yes, I heat the sparge water to 170 first.

    3. The tubing I use to transfer the cooled wort into the fermenter has been sanitized in bleach.

  • What the reason for rum versus water?

  • Because I have this superstitious belief that the vodka will kill germs coming in, whereas water is more likely to allow bacteria to thrive.

  • Rum in the airlocks and vodka in a spray bottle - love it!

  • Thanks for a great video's, I really like your approach to brewing. Actually you got me into home brewing a few years ago after I saw these videos :)

I noticed a big difference in my brews when I started to whirlpool the wort and not putting all the "ugly stuff" into the fermenter as you do in this video. I lose about ½-litre of wort though, but the beer tastes a lot better, at least the lagers that I'm into.

    Cheers!

  • Man, you are the Bob Ross of brewing! I much enjoyed your narration, well done sir!

  • Nice vid man :)

I been homebrewing for about a year now and you really capture the Charlie Papazian approach and attitude which is very important

"Relax, don't worry, have a homebrew!"

    Cheers

  • Great videos! Just wondering what do you use to clean/santize all of your equipment?

  • I love your brewing vids! Rock on.

  • using rum in the air locks and vodka in the spray bottle is great. I will be using that.

  • Rum you mean?
