This Udu is formed after the traditional construction methods of the east Nigerian Ibo tribe, and is very much a bass tonal range Udu.

For over 20 years, designer and pottery master, Kai Koesling, has beenhandcrafting Schlagwerk Udu® Drums. Inspired by the original AfricanUdu, our new designs and developments have resulted in a wide range ofmodels. The origin of the Udu® drums lies in Nigeria. Members of theHausa and Ibo tribes discovered the wonderful sound of theseearthenware instruments with two openings. Udu means "clay pot" in thelanguage of the Ibos. Originally from Africa, the Udu can also be foundin Latin America and the Caribbean. Having made the leap into westernmusic culture, Schlagwerk Udus belong to the basics of everypercussionist as sound-effect and rhythm instruments. They are playedby rhythmically opening and closing the side-hole with the palm of thehand. This produces a deep bass tone, reminiscent of the sound of theIndian Tabla. This playing technique is combined with the bright, percussive body-sound produced by hitting any part of the pot with thefingers. All Udu® Drums are hand-turned -- this manufacturing techniqueguarantees optimum sound development.

  • @HarmlessBystander How are your speakers? 2.0? Because I hear it well on my set

  • I think you need a recording device more suited to capturing the base tones of an udu. I really couldn't hear it at all when you were striking the openings.

  • you suck at playing that

  • woah.... cooooool. :)

  • SUPER BRAWO

  • Good !

  • Dude that sounds horrible you might as well be banging on the side of a flower pot, why don't you try one of the Meinl IBO models.

You'll get a much more richer sound especially out of the Fiberglass models, i have the Meinl Liquid IBO myself and even un-miced it sounds better than the one you were just playing.

I'm not trying to be nasty or anything it just didn't really sound too good, try listening to the various Meinl models here on Youtube and you'll see for yourself.

  • that is awesome.

  • @poopiemicpooppoop it's cuz the mic, my udu vid has better sound qality just cuz I used a real mic to record the sound :P

  • you're a good udu singer. sorry for the sound quality
