What fun to watch an orb-weaving spider eat and weave. Here is a short video of eating silk from a partially collapsed web. A short time later, she weaves new radial strands for her web. I suspect that the new silk contains protein from the eaten and digested silk. Short time frame recycling for sure.

  • No, this is Nephila Pilipes. The St. Andrews spider usually has a web decoration (stabilimentum) in the shape of an X and she rests in the middle.
