aww, I've always loved salamanders :)
actually I have a Spotted Salamander (it was found in my pool and I will set it free, don't worry) in a tuperware container on my desk as I'm typing this comment.

do u have any idea how to care for these salamanders man? i found 4 little ones and a large black one floating around in a pool and i need to know about housing and feeding and anything else important.

wow this is great!! guess they're doing pretty good there...you'd think the road would hurt them but..looks otherwise..
Do they put rock salt on the road every winter?...some people think this hurts the amphibian population.

I'm sure this road is salted but this vernal has been there for decades, as far as I know. In fact I've seen even smaller vernals that are even closer to the road. Some were so small I didn't realize they were pools until it was pointed out to me.

I've seen some pools that are literally touching the road, although this one was at least a short walk off the road.
