1969 experimental home movie dramatizes the life of Roberto Kaffke, San Francisco beatnik/boxer/equestrian/author/revolutionary/professor.
Shot on location (dir. Gregorio Pehrson) at The Old Spaghetti Factory, Cafe Trieste, City Lights Books, Golden Gate Park and several other unusual San Francisco landmarks.
I appear briefly as a son of the beat, nearly shot in the tactless attempt to mooch 4 bits for Crumb's Motor City ("the only true working man's comic book!! Working girls too!").
Notice that father and son are both wearing blue work shirts, the people's uniform at the time.
Hit The Deck:
Lip reading revolutionary needed to transcribe the brief speaking scenes of Papa Kaffke getting the message to the people.
I could then edit voice-over the silent footage,
enhanced here with intro/outro of Cuban revolutionary barbudos (1959) and psychedelic relic (1967) of Tomorrow.
