I think you just don't understand layman ( which i hope is the good translation for Laïc ) Both classes shouldn't be optional. Not in a public school. the theory of evolution is something absolutely necessary to be tought, for there are proofs, evidences. Therefor, it IS history, people should know about it, regardless of their cultural beliefs. Religion is based on personal conviction, and therefore don't have it's place in a PUBLIC school.

Looks like you can't have beauty and brains. At least not in pageantry. Evolution is a scientific fact. And having evolution as an elective? Are you kidding me? Great, lets make basket weaving mandatory then.

First of all, it wasn't 99%, not even close.

Second of all, what is saddening is that even for those who learned about evolution in college, they still cite the reason for teaching it as broadening one's perspective to see both sides of the argument.

There is no arguments period, evolution as a "scientific theory" is a fact. These girls more or less have all mis-attributed a "scientific theory" to the word "theory" which is colloquially used to mean "a hunch" or "an opinion".
