Led by Iraq and Vietnam veterans, 150 protesters chanting We need jobs and education, not wars and occupation! marched from WoodruffPark to the CNNCenter. In solidarity with Muntazer al-Zaidi, the Iraqi journalist sentenced to three years in prison for throwing his shoes at Pres. Bush, marchers threw shoes at an effigy of Bush. They repeated al-Zaidis words, This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq, and called for Bush administration officials to be held accountable for the millions of deaths and grave injuries caused by the U.S. invasion. Afterward, about 30 young people held up traffic for 10 minutes by lying down in the busy Marietta Street intersection in front of CNN.
