No, only in 9-Ball - 8 ball hit any ball you want, preferably from the front of the rack, I like the second ball in myself for moving balls around, or 8 ball breaks. Also, straight at the head ball with power is a nice break, experiment a little and find your sweet spot, good luck -

Different racks for different leagues, and different bars - My fav rack is one ball in the front, alternate stripes & solids, then be sure a stripe is back left, and a solid is back right, thats a fair rack for 8 ball.

I like to break with the cue ball about a ball and a half away from the the rail on your left right at the headstring hitting the second ball in the rack and just getting enough of the first ball to send the cue into 2 rails around the corner pocket. It is easy to scratch on, but once you get the position on the rack down it's easy and there is a good probability of making a ball.
