Compound the fact that when Rommel initially arrived in Africa, he inflicted humiliating losses to the British, despite being at a strategic inconvenience. However, he could never capitalize on his success like Monty or Patton because of his logistical problem.

Several Italian naval admirals were in the pocket of the Allies. They would betray the shipping lanes, effectively starving Rommel until he couldn't do anything but lose.

So, you can take cheap shots at Rommel and argue like schoolgirls on which commander is better.

But unless you account for the many situational hazards that plagued these men, you're just engaging in guess work.

Personally, I feel generalship is not necessarily determined by overall success but the degree of accomplishment attained given a certain circumstance.

  • i like how they never mentioned that the US paras were shot to shit buy their own guns before landing. because the ships off the coast were edgy and were being bombed just a shot time before.

  • @ubeaste 1942-44.

  • Funny that they shared the footage from Battle 360 when they show the bombings.

  • time to drive Mussolini out of Sicily. Operation Husky has begun. It is Patton and Monty (Montgomery) VS Alfred Guzzoni and Smiling Albert Kesselring as Patton said "if I win I can't be stopped if I lose I will die" Patton is right they are out numbered 100 to 1 and Axis has the big guns on this island it is win or die for Patton.

  • A great book to read is The Patton Letters. There was also the Rommel Letters. Both are excellent reads and give you an insight to who these men were. These books are simply collections of things that they wrote in their diaries, letters, reports etc. It is very good because it gives the reader an insight to who the man is.

  • the Sudetenland was the border between Czechoslovakia and Germany and the people were known as sudeten Germans and was once part of Austria.

  • wa this guy at 4:48 sound like nicholas cage alot ahahh teacher of US history in national treasure

  • @ubeaste They helped England (supply) since de beginning.

  • @bfahren Grossdeutschland was not supposed to be that big. It was only supposed to include Sleswig- Holstein, Memel, Western Poland, the Sudetenland, Austria and Alsace-Lorraine. The rest were used to be Satellite and puppets.

  • @modernwarfare9009 Not exactly. Hitler wanted a Großdeutschland that would extend to the east, including Poland, Ukraine, Belarus and of course Russia up to the Volga river. He never wanted a war with Great Britain nor France.

In his alliance with the Italians he left Mussolini to take care of the Mediterranean but the sheer incompetence of Italian armies forced him to send troops to Greece, Africa and finally to defend Italy.
