http://www.paganrod.com/ Bruges city of water, history and murder.
Bruges (Dutch: Brugge) is the largest city in the Flemish Region of Belgium. Often referred to as "The Venice of the North" (among few other water canal-based northern cities), it is World Heritage City.

First fortifications were built after Julius Caesar's conquest of the Menapii tribe in the 1st century BC.

Franks, a German tribe, took over the whole region from the Gallo-Romans around the 4th century. Then, the Viking incursions of the 9th century prompted Baldwin I, Count of Flanders to reinforce the Roman fortifications.

The name Bruges may stem from the Old Norse Bryggja, meaning "landing stage" or "port", and may have the same origin as Norwegian Bryggen.

Many of its medieval buildings are notable, including many churches. The sculpture of Madonna and Child in one of them is believed to be Michelangelo's only sculpture to have left Italy within his lifetime.

We would have probably never stumbled upon this eminent city if not watching the movie In Bruges, with Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes. There youve got Bruges in bloody sauce. Magnificent from start to finish a good breath in, after all those boring American productions you never want to waste time on.
