Trailer for SIGGRAPH 2008 conference presentation of the Parallel Marching Method - the fastest algorithm for computation of geodesic distances on parametric surfaces in the world.
Computation of geodesics is very useful as a fundamental step in a lot of computer graphics and geometry processing applications - from mesh simplification to collision detection of triangular shapes. The inspiration for this work was a 3D face recognition where geodesic distances are used as an expression-invariant descriptor of a face.
May I ask what this will enable? Faster...?
