http://www.seo.com/ Tyson Hymas(@TysonHymas) answers the question "Which version of my domain should I use, the www or the non www?" in the latest installment in our Commonly Asked Search Marketing Questions series.
Ultimately, it doesn't really matter which version of the domain you chose to use. It is generally considered standard to launch a new site using the www version of the domain.
For an older domain, check in to see which version of your domain is ranking in the search engines. Check the backlinks for each version of the site to determine which version of the site has the most sites linking to it. If one version of the site is showing up better, it makes sense to stick with that version. After deciding on one of the versions, you will need to 301 redirect the incorrect version of the site to the correct version.
