Miami FL. 1/4/10
A Pembroke Pines police officer Monday afternoon shot a man accused of killing his mother by setting her on fire earlier that day.
The incident started in the 14700 block of Northwest Third Avenue in North Miami, Miami-Dade police said. About 12:15 p.m., Clifford Sheldon McLean, 24, doused lighter fluid on his mother, Cutie Lyn McLean. The suspect's father, Clifford Willis McLean, 48, was present but avoided serious injuries, police said.
The family had a history of disputes, neighbors said. Police said the three were arguing before the younger McLean attacked his mother.
After Cutie Lyn McLean was set ablaze, the suspect jumped into a white Nissan Maxima and drove away. Police set up a perimeter around the neighborhood, but could not find him.
Investigators later discovered that McLean had broken down the door of a nearby house, said Lt. Neal Cuevas, a North Miami police spokesman. He barged in on a North Miami city employee having lunch with his wife, and demanded car keys.
Now driving a white North Miami public works pickup truck, Cuevas said, McLean tried to elude Miami-Dade and North Miami cops by slipping into Broward County.
Along the way, the man allegedly struck four other cars and engaged at least one other driver in an ``altercation,'' said Sgt. John Gazzano, a spokesman for the Pembroke Pines Police Department. Gazzano, who did not identify a suspect, would say only that police were investigating ``a death involving that vehicle.''
A Pembroke Pines officer, who was not identified, tried to pull over the truck at University Drive and Sheridan Street after noticing it bore a North Miami seal on the driver's-side door. The vehicle came to a stop after striking at least one car in the northbound lanes of University Drive, Gazzano said.
The driver got out of the truck and tried to fight another driver. The police officer also got out of his vehicle and shot the man. Police said he was in critical condition at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.

Why is it that the cemetary assistants are not in suits@. They look like they should be running phone line.. not delivering a casket into a grave in front of the family.
