LATYRX is an indie rap duo which hails from the San Francisco Bay Area, California and consists of MCs Lateef the Truthspeaker and Lyrics Born -- co-founding members of the seminal indie label, Quannum Projects.
Over the years these two prolific artists have collaborated with Fatboy Slim, Galactic, Z-Trip, Blackalicious, Kasabian, DJ Shadow, KRS-ONE, Sam Sparro, E-40, Dan the Automator, Pigeon John, Jurassic 5 and many others, and have released classic and well known songs such as "Lady Don't Tek No", "Storm Warning", "Latyrx", "Callin Out", "Wonderful Night", "The Last Trumpet", "I Like It, I Love It", "Don't Stop", "I Changed My Mind", "That Old Pair of Jeans" and many more.
In 1997 Latyrx released their first record, simply titled; 'The Album'. Recorded in living rooms and basements, it was a record that broke boundaries and changed perceptions. A record that embodies the independent spirit and is lauded as both "visionary" and "legendary".
15 years have passed since the Latyrx debut, and during that time both Lateef & Lyrics Born have gone on to forge successful careers as Independent Solo Artists.
It is now 2012. The world has changed in many ways, yet what has not changed is the commitment and the passion of Lateef & Lyrics Born to create conscious, progressive, well-crafted, ground-breaking, independent music.
These two legendary MCs have now re-united as Latyrx to record the official follow-up to their 1997 debut. Aptly titled, 'The Second Album', this highly anticipated recording features production and guest appearances from DJ Shadow, Zion I, AmpLive, Cut Chemist (Jurassic 5), Boots Riley (The Coup, Street Sweeper Social Club), Pretty Lights, Kool A.D. (Das Racist), Spank Rock, Chief Xcel (Blackalicious), Future People, The Bangerz and many, many more.
Having already played last year's Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco, Chicago's Northcoast Music Festival, Google's Summer Concert Series as well as dates up and down the West Coast, the return of Latyrx has not been subtle.
The duo released a new mixtape titled 'Latyrical Madness Volume One' last year and have been in the studio working on new music ever since.
Earlier this year Latyrx released a video for "Hardship Enterprise", a track off of Lateef's solo album, 'Firewire', and have just dropped a brand new video and song titled "Call to Arms".
As career Independent artists, both LB & Lateef decided that getting their fans involved in the process was the most practical way to go about making their new record.
"Why we're here on IndieGoGo is to keep the independent spirit alive.
At no other time in history has it been as viable as it is now to involve the listener and the artist in the process of creating an album.
We are always striving to stay at the forefront of technology, and as champions of the independent spirit we have chosen to utilize the power of the internet via a grassroots campaign to co-create this record with our fans, for our fans.
IndieGoGo has provided the perfect arena for both artists and fans to merge together in a way never before possible. It is a very exciting time and we are happy to be here collectively with all of you at the technological revolution." - Latyrx
To thank fans for contributing to the album campaign, Latyrx have offered a variety of perks ranging from the modest (autographed CDs & vinyl records) to amazing (a private Latyrx show in your living room).
Each IndieGoGo contributor will also receive a free download of an exclusive Latyrx track not on the album and not available anywhere else.
With a consistent history of making high quality music, the new Latyrx album will be no exception and fans can expect that same level of quality on this new record.
The Latyrx IndieGoGo campaign runs for 60 days, so make sure you to get your contribution in NOW.
