K1X has a history of Sierra Leone inspired projects. It all began in 2003, when we created our very first collection around the basketball culture and peoples of Freetown, Sierra Leone. Mallence Bart-Williams is a friend of the family who hails from SL - she is the driving force behind the *folorunsho design project, which remixes original African materials and techniques with western design.
All *folorunsho products are non-profit oriented, as all winnings reimburse the Sierra di Lion Sharity Trust, which directly pays the local youngsters, that actually design and manufacture many of the *folorunsho pieces. "The'Sierra di Lion Sharity Trust Fund" is not about charity - it's all about sharing... The underlying concept of every project is always a two-way exchange. An exchange of similarities, differences, complements, styles, culture, skills, tasks, talents, ideas, energy and manpower that are bound to evolve and inspire. An exchange in the form of sound, design and art. The SL - DCAC Pack is a product of such an exchange: the synergy of three continents, uniting African tradition, European know-how and Asian skills.
The Sierra Leone DCAC Pack was born when Mallence visited the Big Market on Malama Thomas Street in Freetown, where traditional Ankara fabrics are sold right next to fresh fish, pork feet and Hello Kitty paraphernalia. These very same Ankara fabrics (22 different materials to be exact) were handpicked and shipped to Thailand, where a small family owned footwear manufactory went about creating 330 handmade DCAC pairs. The line consists of 22 styles (feat. 15 shoes per size run). Only one complete size run per account available. Limited to 22 accounts word wide. Limited to 330 pairs world wide. Retail price: 99,90 €
In an rare stroke of genius, more Ankara fabrics were processed to create 22 different 59/50 caps, some of which match selected DCAC SL shoes exactly. These handcrafted materials floss a distinct Sierra Leone flavor on the underside of these K1X New Era fitted caps, adding just a tad of
pop to an otherwise all black lid. Each cap fits one unique size run of the Sierra Leone DCAC's and comes in two different LOTS of 6 caps per unit.
