Here we follow part of the NKP 765's ferry move to trainfest in the 100 degree heat on 07/19/11. Due to the extreme heat the TP&W imposed a 10mph speed restriction.
the train got as far as Watseka IL. then stopped for servicing and did not move again until much later that night when it was cooler.

  • Yeah it was flippin' hot...I was sweating just standing still in the shade. Nice video of the ol' girl.

  • I could only imagine how hot it must have been in the cab.

  • 765 stopped at the Indiana/Illinois boarder due to the heat. Once the temp reached above 100 degrees, the dispatcher ordered all trains to halt operation. the crews on 765 were relieved by a pair of hostlers, and took shelter in the parlor car. It was HOT! I broke a sweat walking in the shade of the train from the engine to the parlor car three cars back! Thanks to the car's owner for the bottle of water. :)

  • awwww man!!!! i live only 30 minutes from watseka, i wish i wouldve known!!! yeah that was a scorcher of a summer!!

  • SWEET!!!

  • Wouldn't that suck? Having to move 10mph because the it was too hot and 765 could damage the rails? What a drag.
