Gangrene from a spider's bite
Mrs Maura, a lady who hires out horses, was bitten by an armed spider, the worst spider of all, worse than the tarantula or the black widow, even though it is small. This spider is called armed spider because it strikes, it is brown and likes living in old wood and because it is cold over there in the winter there is always wood around to be used in fireplaces. This spider bit her leg and caused gangrene in her leg. Her tibia and fibula was exposed, it was horrible. As there is no antidote, the Butanta Institute recommends amputation, so she went to the hospital to have an amputation. And now I will tell you a peculiar case because jokes are interesting. Mrs Maura is an odd person, very funny, but it is worth me telling you this. She did what was right, but she didn't fully understand the reason why. So she went there to have her leg amputated, but at that time she thought they were going to prepare a dressing, she was already tied to the operation table when she was told they were going to cut her leg off she then started to scream and asked to be untied. They said no, and that she was going to die if she did not have her leg amputated. So she asked for a police chief officer to be called and he said: 'Well, if you sign a liability agreement the doctors will release you because they claim you will die from gangrene'. She decided to sign and returned to Maua thinking about dying. I did auto-hemotherapy to her, but then I remembered another resource used by a French doctor, a surgeon during the 1914 to 1918 war called Pierre Delbet who saved many limbs from being amputated with a magnesium chloride solution. In order to be isotonic he prepared it with 20 grams in 2 litres of water. He washed the wounds with it and he saved several people who had gangrene. I think the two things worked together: the action of this solution that worked as a very powerful disinfectant, and the auto-hemotherapy that worked as a powerful immune stimulant. In more or less 2 to 3 weeks Mrs Maura's leg had been cured. But then comes the funny side, she booked an appointment with the doctor who was doing what the Butanta Institute told him to do. She booked an appointment at his private surgery, and waited until a lot of people were in the room and said to the doctor: 'Look at the leg that you were going to chop off, it is this one here!' But, being a farmer, she said: 'If you had not cut off anyone's leg for a long time and needed to practice using my leg, you only had to say, and I would have brought you a pig so you would have four legs to amputate.' This is Mrs Maura, she really speaks her mind, but it was not like that. The doctor really thought he had to amputate, but she understood that he wanted to practice on her leg.
