let me just be careless and throw my shit everywhere now...

Thanks so much for sharing, I've been a chicken and haven't fired anything yet but thats coming to a quick end! Cross your fingers for me... please;-) I love your throwing and I bet you'll get this next firing much better! Good luck!

Understandably you are unhappy with firing, however taking it out on the pottery is very hard to watch or should I say listen to.
The banging and klanging is horriable in your camera mic!

@ChumleyWhiplash - Yep, I know. Bloating is caused by reducing at the wrong time / temp in high iron clay bodies or not bisquing long enough.
-
@ThatLynnGirl Bloat is like a bubble in the clay body, (in the wall of the oiece not the glaze), that develops during the high fire. They can be all sorts of sizes from pimple size to quarter size (probably larger but thats the largest one I've seen) it makes the piece unsafe. I dont know why, I assume trapped gas of some sort, but not like air pockets from bad wedging. Its frustrating and makes the piece look warty. I've only had it happen at ^9/10 but never at ^5/6 (diff clay bodies)

Do you get your drips because the glaze had a drip in it after you dipped it, or did the drip show up after the fireing because the glaze dripped down?
If you get the drips right after you drip the bisque in the glaze, try just using your finger to sort of 'sand' down the drip.

Don't hate the drips. :-D
Bloat is a word I've never heard used in regard to pottery. Explain please?

I really like the matt oatmeal with Leach white on the tea bowls, the difference in texture and subtle color is very nice! Gosh, I think we can all relate to being disappointed with a firing. Your wares are beautiful though! After seeing your video, I think I'll remain happy with my electric kiln. No beautiful reduction glazes, but that's the trade off. Thanks for sharing! Cheers, Sharon
I thought most Copper reds like Jeff's red had to go to Cone 10 then reduce heavy? as for glazing, I wet the bisqued pot with water then I stick the piece into the glaze (we had huge 5 gallon buckets of glazes).

@FullArius - I hit cone 9, and reduced heavy. My shelves were too big so perhaps the red bowls only hit cone 7-8?? After I cut the shelves the kiln fires much better

I'll re-fire the 2 red bowls, but the blue ones are bloated. I already gave away all the mugs.
