  • It's amazing how cheap you can pick up a C4 ZR-1 right now. There are 3 in my area under 20.

  • 1:45 takeoff was a mad max moment

  • @patobravo low lift cam and very very low compression ratio 7.5:1 to be exact. this is how GM warrantied the engine and wanted to keep it very reliable and fuel efficient. with just tune and boost, or higher lift cam had this car at 500hp and 500ft/lbs. its insane. check out the Callaway Sledgehammer

  • @MrMarkpark you might want to reference Callaway Sledgehammer. Callaway B2K option for 1987-1991 put the car at almost 3400lbs and still got 25mpg highway with that 400hp TT 5.7 smallblock while using only a 7.5:1 compression and still carried the warranty. You could put 150k miles on these engines before rebuild. Tune and boost had the L98 engine through the roof. To keep the numbers equivalent to the upcoming ZR-1 and to keep Chevrolets blessing, Reeves Callway agreed to not over shoot the ZR1

  • @m3trooper what sedan? A GM developed CTS-V? Dodge nor Ford have one. An 2011 M3 can barely touch it. The ZR-1 performance of over 20yrs ago just has now become the standard of mid-range high performace. The LT5 was named in the top 20 engines best engines EVER MADE and still holds the stock endurance record of 174mph for 5000 miles done on texas motor speedway. I know youre not dissing the ZR-1, but even by todays standards it is still a hell of a competitor and holds its own.

  • @m3trooper

    A few sedans that can match the ZR-1's performance? I don't think so. Maybe you can find a few 2011 Sedans with V8's and the same horsepower, but no way is the performance the same. The ZR-1 is also light weight, even a huge sedan with a lot more horse power would get it' ass kicked by one of these.

  • @vettefan87 epic fail... The ZR1 has 4 camshafts that sit on top of the cylinder heads, 2 per head..

    It's DOHC (Dual OverHead Cam)

  • The ZR1s LT5 engine is a 4 cam, not dohc.

  • @patobravo ...Note the narrator mentions the relatively high-rpm power peak for the ZR-1 and the relatively low-rpm power peak for the Callaway. Turbos increase torque, increasing power at the same rpms (though the max rpm may be lower for the sake of longevity- turbos add stress to engines)

    The ZR-1's dohc design increases torque a bit with better, 32v breathing, but also is one of many internal upgrades accommodating the high rpm it uses for its power.

    Hp = (torque x RPM) / 5252 Hope I helped
