  • In noting the fits and starts of science's halting attempts to drag humankind forward, it is almost impossible not to note Religion's uncompromising determination to keep humanity from going forward, forever dragging aching humankind backward into the eternal night of superstition and fear.

Poor Kepler. Poor Galileo. Poor us.

  • @HORNHost But its not religon that holds humanity back, its the censorship of fundermentalism. The islamic religon Promoted the teachings and scientific workings of the greeks, and preserved their knowledge so that even now we know. Fundermentalism took hold though in the islamic religon and made them stagnent and christian europe pulled ahead. The same is happening in america and many other places right now as well. But i guess i'm just more exact finger pointing. Either way, yes, poor us..

  • These anologies are simple yet they get the message of the show across, this is amazingly explained. This is what it takes to contruct a model of a solar system. What other models could be contructed by beings in other solar systems. It also turn's out that Venus lies just within the habitable zone of the Solar System and Mars well within, that doesn't really mean anything but as much as three habitable zone planets were found in the Gliese 581 system let alone unfound ones.

  • And even today, religion holds a stranglehold on the minds of a majority of mankind. We still live in the dark ages.

  • @HORNHost Richard Dawkins freed me from the slavery of superstition. :D

  • I clicked 6.42 and laughed a little.

  • @regularmatt “Through the years I find that slightly smaller amounts of cannabis suffice to produce the same degree of high, and in one movie theater recently I found I could get high just by inhaling the cannabis smoke which permeated the theater.”

Thats an extract from an essay he wrote on the subject. He clearly smoked it more than twice.

  • sagan was at hogwarts in this episode

  • @klasted we don't need religion to learn morals. they're 2 different things.

  • @Shavarnarak

While I agree that religion has slowed our progression as a species I dont think wiping it out would be a good idea. I am in no way a religious fanatic, in fact I rarely go to church, but religion is a way of introducing morals into people. Granted there have been a lot of immoral things that happened because of people who say they are religious, but many of those people are just ignorant and have misguided prejudices against things they dont understand. Not all of religion is evil

  • @adamist23 what the hell's wrong with smoking weed?
