Performing Eugene McDaniels' 1969 classic at Terminal 5 in New York City, September 23, 2010. Pianist Les McCann and saxophonist Eddie Harris popularized this song once McDaniels was blacklisted by record labels because of his criticism against the Vietnam War.
Directed by Spike Lee. Part of UNSTAGED, an original series from American Express.

To all who are saying this song sucks compared to the original: you really don't understand what you're listening to. Firstly, this is a reinterpretation, not a redefinition of the song. Secondly, John Legend is one of the best R&B artists today, and The Roots are not only one of the best bands today, but, in my opinion, one of the most important African American groups ever. Over the past 20 years, their musicianship and fusion of jazz, soul, and funk with hip hop has pushed that genre forward.
