Here is a tour of my 1987 Iroc with a TPI 350 and 700R4 transmission. I picked this car up in April 2008 for $700 after it sat in a garage for almost 12 years without being driven. It has every option available including a security keypad and the Bose sound system. The one true deal of my lifetime.

With new belts, abattery and lots of cleanup, it ran a 9.62 in the 1/8 mile a week after waking it up from the 11 year slumber.

Since then I have fixed the AC with a new compressor, replace the alternator and upgraded the ECM from the 165 to the later 90-92 730 Speed Density setup. The mass-air is disconnected but still mounted for now.

This car will be getting a single turbo mounted on the passenger side. Currently completely stock right down to the exhaust system, with the exception of the ECM conversion.

  • Did not know they used a Bose back then. Is AC Delco Speakers bose? Also i am still trying to find a Iroc z with the special sound system control panel.

  • @josh1303 Bose was a special option but GM has offered Bose in a lot of cars over the years. The sound system control panel you described sounds a lot like the stereo in a Berlinetta. Do a search for Berlinetta Radio and there are a couple of vids. If that's what you are looking for, they are hard to find these days!

  • Please tell us what all you needed for the ECM swap. Also, do you program your own prom's?

  • @magicluis145 I have swapped to a Megasquirt since this video was made. To do the 7730 swap you need a map sensor, 7730 ecm, TPI calmap (eprom/chip) and the plugs that fit in the 7730. The rest is just moving wires from the old plugs to the 7730 and adding the map sensor wires. Here is a site with lots of info on the swap: eecis.udel (.edu) /~davis/z28/ecm_swap_730 [You'll have to edit that URL to remove the parentheses and spaces]

  • You have an amazing car, my friend. I'm trying to find one to restore. Cant wait to have one in that kind of shape. Keep rocking.

  • @IBLG Thank you.. I usually end up with the bad deals but I did really well on this car. It made up for all the bad ones (a recent Jeep Cherokee 4x4 comes to mind as a big mistake) I've bought! I'm in the process of painting this Iroc now. Hope it turns out nice.

5.7 optional for 1987 and on--

there were 50 5.7's made for 86 but for gm testing - not production..

"the only 10 5.7 irocs made before 1990" comment was sooo funny.. lmao

look who the MORON really was .lol

  • @outcastMETALchild89 For the third Gen Camaros and Birds, Speed Density had more aftermarket modifications. For the mustang it was the other way around. The MAf system in the camaro was too new and had a lot of problems.

  • @firefighter880 86 or 87 was the first year
