LOL ...I must say that I like the Nitty Gritty Dirt band version too...as well as most other cover versions...I suppose this version is "different"...Ye are right...it may be an "age" thing :)

Never heard this one. Yes this is typical of the awesome talent of Jim Staffird. Amazingly, not always , does the hits show the actual talents of the writer/performers. Jim Stafford was much more talented than his comical hits displayed.

Thank you for posting this version. Its one of my favourites by Jim. It reminds me of the movie''MY DOG SKIP''. We lost our dog '' Mr Duke'' Feb. 25 2010 who had been with us for 14 1/2 years. I miss him. Sometimes I think we can be so close to our pets its like losing a son or daughter. For two days I had trouble eating and sleeping. I thank GOD for giving him to me and all the happy times we spent together and I hope one day Ill see him again, for nothing is impossible with GOD..... right?

Our St. Bernard just passed away. He was a great friend to us. We laid down beside him and did our best to comfort him as he went. It was hard. After hours of me and my wife crying...this song, this verson, came to my mind. I havn't listened to it since I was a kid. I'm glad you shared this download. In memory of our gentle giant, "Kodiak".
