How to throw a covered jar and make a lid. A jar is thrown and expanded out to form a rounded form, the gallery is created and the lid is thrown to fit. In part two the jar is decorated and the lid is completed with a handle.
love watching you throw. there was one place i was looking at and they were a pottery school and i noticed that none of them were really great on the whee.l. i kept thinking i mind as well go apprentice a person like you who really knows what there doing then paying all that money for some of the instructors that really don't know what there doing great work man
soldner does live center thats his style, not because he cant center but thats what he wants, besides theres nothing wrong if you dont like a glaze or a shape of in this case if his pot wobbles, thats why its his name at the bottom of the pot and not yours
First of all taking it off before leather hard is perfectly fine. Second if you think that a that much wobble is bad just go type in shoji hamida and tell me what you think.
ddsw, there are two types of center, "dead center" and "live center", you will learn the difference if you keep making pots. I remember when I first started making pots, seeing a film (long time ago) of Hamada throwing and the clay was wabbling all over the place. I thought, 'what's wrong with this guy, he is suppose to be so good and he can't even center the clay". That wabble is what gives life and jester to your pots. Keep on making pots and look for that live center. Thanks for you comments.
