That's his current gig. Every comedian does it. Until now, you've just been thinking that comedians came up with a brand new show every night. It's exactly like going to the same play or concert twice.

Your act is what you know will get you paid, and is the safe guideline for which to keep the show going.

If you feel ballsy you can talk to the audience(Crowd Work), try to come up with something silly and go with it (Riffing), or having planned material that you KNOW works by having already done it before, and polished it through many drafts.

This is his current act. He's on TV. Getting paid. Not the time to spit new game.

Ah, I can understand why you went to such great lengths because that is annoying as all hell but it always falls on deaf ears. I remember one time I took some friends to see Bill Burr while he was doing a huge tour and one person saw some of the material online and thought that he was a one trick pony because he did the same set.
