  • I thought that the final E natural is actually written by Verdi in the score? I guess that in this case, Ms. Studer decided not to sing it.

  • No, there is'nt high E in Verdi scores at all and it couldn't be, he is'nt Bellini or Donizetti, dear ''altanotte''.

  • Here is a lot of craps...Is she always sing so bad?

  • It is absolutely NOT written in the score. Verdi rarely wrote above Db for soprano. There's an Eb for Giovanna d'Arco, C#'s and Dbs do abound. I could search, but this top E is tasteless whenever taken, regardless by whom or how well.

  • @altanotte, Many indifferent singers have high E naturals. I'm much more concerned about what comes before the high note at the end. This performance is absolutely gorgeous. Cheryl Studer is a jewel. And it is worth noting that when I looked at the score a second ago, the final note is an A, so any high whatever would be an optional interpolation done mainly by modern soprani of the lighter categories.

  • @Steinweg9 Furthermore, she is singing Muti, who practices the "come scrito" school...she sings rather badly here, I must say.

  • Instead of worrying that she doesn't interpolate a high E, you should be critisizing her sound completely disappears when she tries to go to the low A's. It's a mess.

  • @Fairpavel

Not than Fleming, Fleming owns her ass any day.

  • @baritonas

Bellini an Donizetti didn't write higher than Db6, ever! The highest written in this aris is Db as well, and the lowest is A below middle C.

  • What the hell does that mean? Verdi had many periods and styles in his long list of operatic creations. Many call for dramatic sopranos, or lyrics, spintos, or coloraturas, or dramatic coloraturas...like this one. This is a role that many a great Aida or Leonora would avoid, or only sing early in their career.

  • brava!! Greate singer.

  • I think that Studer is (was) a better singer than Gheorghiu, Netrebko, Fleming.
