This clip advertised the BBC WST 100-episode drama series "Taste of Life" shown peaktime on Cambodian television stations TV5 and TVK in 2004-2007.
It was the most talked-about Khmer TV programme for years and attracted huge audiences, sometimes OVER HALF THE POPULATION tuned in to watch the twice-weekly episodes.
The show was produced the BBC World Service Trust and funded by the British Government. Based in a fictional Phnom Penh hospital and nursing college, "Taste of Life" promoted health messages - particularly HIV prevention & Mother-and-Child health - through its dramatic and entertaining format.
The first Khmer TV drama to use actors' real voices, it soon earned the nickname "Cambodian ER".
About 100 young Cambodians were trained from scratch in production skills, writing and acting.
Many now work fulltime for KMF (Khmer Mekong Films), Cambodia's leading TV & Film production company.
