Sauer was noted for his aristocratic approach to music-making, with lashings of charm, elegance and style backed up by phenomenal technique.

Here is an opportuinty to hear Sauer in an extended work by Schumann: a slightly abridged version of his "Carneval" op.9. The recording was made in c.1923.

  • seems to be the best existing interpretation of this important piece. We can hear it often too strict in tempo and too heavy. Here everything has sense.A long time I did not find the sense in these pieces as I never heard a real good interpretation. Thanks for sharing this.

  • I wonder how similar to his mentor Lieszt/s musical interpretation, teaching and feeling is Sauer in this perfomance of Carnaval. I really appreciate your uploads of these little time capsules to a bygone musical era and sensibility.

  • bravo tres fin tres classe
