  • That line at 1:30 is why I think this is Heston's best. That one scene is what got me really into this film. It's actually touching and just one of many brilliant things about this film.

  • The studio system in Hollywood , at the time Welles' was working, never forgot nor never forgave him for shaking things up, causing trouble and cutting off Rita Hayworth's hair. The Boy's club made sure Welles' would never create another master piece, after Citizen Kane", in "their" industry, ever again. Welles was a strange flower in Hollywood, one that was never allowed to bloom and so his genius withered up and died.

  • It's amazing just how good this film is, despite the studio tampering. Welles had a life-long struggle with studio suits, didn't he? They just could not grasp his vision.

  • One of Welles' best. Too bad the studio kept messing with it. Nearly as good as "Citizen Kane" and very controversial for the late 50's. How good a director was Welles? He could make Charlton Heston look good.

  • and remember the limited funds Welles had compared to other movies at the same cost.... its a shame he could not get $ like some hacks we have today

  • @robotpanda77 It was just the chili. There was a pot of it, and that is what that great gut wanted.

  • @IndianaDylan Sometimes a chili is just a chili.....but about the rape. Welles knew what he did and i think he went as far as he could go in 1958.I love this film but this leaves me with mixed feelings about it.perhaps one should just regard this as a part of the game...

  • One of Heston's best? Are you kidding, A.O.??

  • @robotpanda77 no lol. theres moments of heavily implied rape during the film. "it may be too hot for you" is her warning him of his own brashness, one could say.

  • Is that what passed for innuendo back then? "I'll come back and try some of your chili" "Be careful it may be too hot for you." lol
