Do you know what you're putting on your skin?

All cosmetics require preservatives to protect them from microorganisms, even though they have potentially toxic effects against your skin.

Preservatives in cosmetics might be dangerous!

There are some of the commonly used preservatives in cosmetics, phenonip and phenoxyethanol. We performed the acute fish toxicity tests of these preservatives using Rhodeus uyekii (MORI).
Phenonip (multiple paraben complex) and phenoxyethanol are added to give a final concentration of 0.2 and 1% in two aquariums, respectively.

The fishes died in 5 seconds!

  • Cosmetics contain less than 1% phenoxyethanol. What a misleading way to illustrate its toxicity for humans. Small fish are just a bit different than humans. Good try, though.
