  • Sideshowbobx, I did use a tillering stick to help with tillering to help with making sure the limbs were balanced. I would just use the method of scraping and bending the limb to get it close, then use the tillering stick to keep the limbs balanced.

  • Thanks, all. Sorry so long in answering questions. The tree is a Hickory. I cut it in August, as suggested by Paul Comstock's book, "The Bowyer's Bible". Stripped the bark right after cutting, prepped the ends with white glue and let it sit a year to dry (the glue apparently seals the ends so the wood dries through the grain without checking (cracking). The string is braided sinew, which was purchased online on a small spool. I twisted 2 pieces together to give more strength.
