This documentary shows that kendo is a lot deeper, it's not about beating your opponent, it's a lifelong quest for self development. I think if everyone will have a mentality similar to the hachi dan examinees, our world will be a lot better.

@CheetaReborn As Ishida mentioned at one point, you must strike with the mind, body, and spirit, all acting as one. In this way you will achieve the truest form of striking. The yell represents the spirit. Before striking the yell shows a sign of readiness and it is a way of bolstering yourself for the difficulty ahead. Yelling at the moment of impact helps to ensure a more powerful stroke. If you can vocalize the point as you strike it, it shows strong intention and presence of mind.

I'm by no means trying to mock it, I'm tryng to understand it if anyone else knows. It seems kendoists are taught to make loud yells when they strike. Could someone explain that to me? Again I'm not trying to mock it i'm just curious about the beliefs behind it.
