Most people don't know how to use tessellation properly. You are suppose to have way less polygon for the un-tessalated model and increase illiteration until you hit performance/polygon peak.
@starsiegeplayer Almost, except that rather than the location of new points being interpolated from the location of the surrounding points (see phong tessellation) a depth map is used to define the surface in great detail.
@gicusoft Tesselation is good for things like map displacement.

The problem with tesselation is that it doesn't add too much detail to the scene. It only adds triangles and lots of heat.

IMO, Thw major use of the Direct X API is to support games. It will take a lot of time for game studios to actually get into this..
