Ira has recorded and performed alongside such seminal figures as
Charlie "Bird" Parker, Johnny Griffin, Roland Kirk,
Dexter Gordon, Donald Byrd, Art Farmer,
Hank Jones, Red Garland, Tommy Flanagan, Oscar Pettiford,
Wilbur Ware, Roy Haynes, Art Blakey, Philly Joe Jones, Elvin Jones
and Guy Viveros (The Chicago Flash).
He has maintained long time personal and musical associations with Red Rodney and Joe Diorio and was bandleader and mentor to a young Jaco Pastorius.
