(Preinstalled) Windows 7 vs Ubuntu 9.10 booting time + loading web page

A booting race between Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10.
This booting race doesn't count the BIOS boot time. Instead, the counting is included how long does the OS able to load the internet browser and load a web page, to ensure the operate system is fully ready. Yep, I found a big different between Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10.
The computer I used to test their boot time is HP Mini 311-1025NR, with Intel Atom N270 CPU (1.60Ghz), 2GB DDR RAM and 250GB 5400 rpm Hard disk. The web page I used to test is http://www.gametrailers.com and the internet browser I used is FIreFox 3.5.
The Result?
Well, Windows 7 takes around 40 secs to boot but sadly it took total 2 mins and 20 secs to load the Game Trailers' website, and 20 secs to shut down...
Ubuntu 9.10 also took around 40 secs to boot, however, it just take total 1 mins 06 secs to load the Game Trailers' website, and 7secs to shut down.
Windows 7 took so long time to be ready to shut down, so I also do a boot up-browersing and shut down test, with 35 secs booting included BIOS booting and total 55 secs to open Game Trailers' website, in addition 3 secs to shut down. I didn't surprise since the MacBook Pro I used for test is superior than the HP Mini 311. (15" MBP, 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB DDR3-1066Mhz, 500GB 7200rpm Hard disk)
Still, Windows 7 shut down time is long enough to shut down Ubuntu, Mac, iPhone 3GS and stereos...
If you're not serious worker, gamer or producer, I think Ubuntu is good enough, plus it's free. Ubuntu got most of things for you to do computer things.
Speaking of booting I know there's no way for Mac or Ubuntu to boot faster than Google's Chrome OS... Still Chrome OS is a very basic OS that only built for browsing websites and do internet stuffs... which is not suitable me, I guess. We'll see.

@EddieLolz3r It's not as noise as some high-end laptop and produce less heat than a MacBook pro... But this netbook isn't for multimedia business.

Try it again with a normal boot, hence not first time from blue screen. It always takes longer the first time after that happens.

And how many 'open at startup' programs do you have running? My God man! Disable all that bullshit and it would be a lot better. Granted it still would be a few sec slower, but not 2:30. damn.

My boot w/ Win7 into Firefox w/ 3 homepages is @ 1:19 + Adobe Suite @ 1:28. Shut down w/ everything @ 14 sec.

Well, my old Nokia 5300 can boot up Series 40 in twelved seconds, and takes my MacBook Pro almost a whole minute. See, I can make dumb comparisons too.

these kinds of tests are subject to hardware so they aren't always accurate. not to mention which version you have (32 or 64 bit.) on my machine on 1GB of ram anda 2.2 ghz 64 bit cpu, ubuntu 64 and vista 64 take the same amount of time, but the 32 bit of ubuntu is quicker. see? alot of variables to take into consideration before flaming either OS and/or the person doing the review of it.

No but this is real life stuff!. My brother is got a vaio that is supposed to be supreme, and HECK, it gets like a DIZZZILION years to OPEN ANY APPLICATION!!!, Duuuude, isnt supposed to be better than Windows 98???? WHAT THE HECK IS IT DOING!!. But I have an inspiron, a little older and use Ubuntu 10.04 which works great fast and silent, no misterious internet activity or file reading. I'm waiting for a google os netbook also, it's gonna be great!.

well to start with the competition was unfair

windows 7 should have been against ubuntu 10.04 and not its predecessor..but still ubuntu won....

and about the mac thing ...macbooks usually have good specs.... install ubuntu 10.04 (lucid lynx) on any good or atleast above average computer and you'll see who's the best!!!
