I love the fact that the women really look like they come from that time. I've seen other movies of this kind where women are so skinny..and it just looks so unreal, because women at that time had "more junk in their trunk", it was a sign that they had money to buy food. and the skinny ones were the poor ones, at least the majority.

I love this scene between John Thornton and his mother. When they are discussing whether he should go into speculation, at the back of their minds is how John's own father speculated wildly and went into debt, driving him to suicide. Then Boucher killed himself because he couldn't feed his family, leaving his six children orphaned. It was history repeating itself. I think that was one of the reasons why Thornton helped Higgins support Boucher's children. He saw his own childhood in theirs.

@AlinaTowers: There is a reason for why Fanny is so flaky while John and Hannah Thornton are so staunch and full of grit. Fanny was about 4 years old when their father died and John was about 16. Mother and son then took up the responsibility of providing for the family. Maybe they had too much work on their hands to pay much attention to disciplining Fanny. Maybe they tried to shield her from harsh circumstances and feeling the want of a father's love and ended up pampering her a bit too much.

I agree too... He would be a great Darcy. I just love Pride and Prejudice too. I read the book over and over and i've watch the siries countless times!!!!!
