Linux Mint 6 - Compiz and other effects

Been using Linux Mint 6 for the last week. The great thing about it is everything is already set up for you. Mint did a great job making it easy for WIndows users to migrate to Linux. Mint is a fork of Ubuntu so it does everything that Ubuntu does. If you need to setup anything just use the Program Manager or the Windows style Control Center.

I used the sphere effect to make a globe in this one. Turned out ok but the pictures didn't line up properly. If anyone has some better pictures for the globe let me know.

Quick tip: If you have trouble with Flash using Mint goto the Menu and start up the Package Manager. Search for "flashplugin" and remove "flashplugin-nonfree" and install "adobe-flashplugin".

Great ViD!

I have been using Ubuntu 8.10 (Ultimate) for a couple of weeks. Just tried out Linux Mint 6, yesterday - Liked it so much, I commited it to a Dual Boot with XP. To Setup everything is a breeze!

Pretty Awesome. How much "harder" is it to load/use Ubuntu8.10 in comparison? it seems to me like 8.10 is better... I'll be switching to Linux/Ubuntu as soon as I purchase a new Laptop... any recommendations as to where to buy/find laptops without an OS installed? no more Windows for me, Thanks!

Ubuntu is still fairly easy to use except nothing is installed for you. Codecs, extra repositories and compiz settings manager need to be installed manually. With Mint everything you need to get started is set up for you.

Not sure about where to get a laptop. There are a few companies that offer Ubuntu instead of Windows that's usually cheaper. Plus you get full customer support.

Hi there, I'm trying to find out about this Linux Mint I want to try it but I wish to find out more about how to install compiz fusion getting everything working I'll use it alongside Windows 7 (please don't be mad) if I just knew that step by step and how to install nvidia graphic card controller too if that's needed too or maybe it's installed by default with the system since your first use. I have 1 gb RAM memory but I've 128 mb shared for using them like a graphics card instead of a real one

I've been using Xubuntu, and after a scratching my head a bit at first, I now have it how I want it. I've definitely considered Mint, especially the Community Editions.

Your better off just getting a good deal on a laptop w Vista on it and then just installing a Linux Distro over it. They are all pretty easy to install w a Live CD, plus you can try them out before you install. However i highly recommend Linux Mint as well. Its easy to use and is already pretweaked to run smooth.
