Hi; Its not a jump, its the quick step and sudden turning action prior that generates a lot of torque that makes them fly... please try it.

True yoko gake is sutemi side sweep but I think of it as a sweep that you throw your falling body into! We don't always agree with scholarly classification of waza!

True; still feels like a sweep to me, with a committed drop. The kata version is a yoko sutemiwaza. The variation shown here is a sweep and yokogake name seems most appropriate to this waza.
