An original Trader Vic recipe for a great polynesian cocktail recipe known as the Mai Tai. This is a second recipe for the Mai Tai, our first Red Mai Tai was episode number one! We've come along way since then.

  • Uhmm is that a harry potter snitch on the table...?

  • @kemando12 That's a goomba, from Mario Bros.

  • You used "fridge ice". BAD! Only use fresh, clear bagged ice...or, if you have an industrial grade ice machine...even better...

You also used only (1) kind of rum, the original recipe calls for 2 rums, 1 dark, 1 amber...this is googleable obviously...

  • @nerdtronic5000 It's an ice maker, not fridge ice, but same effect. Let's just say, our budget doesn't afford for an industrial grade ice machine :)

  • Yeah still using those white milky icecubes out of the fridge. Go and buy some icebags!!!

  • @habacuk1985 nah, used to do that. Not convenient or cost effective, I have to buy a lot.

  • Titos is a great sponsor to have, for the price they absolutely make the best vodka.

  • i make all my Caribbean/Tropical drinks (Mai Tai, Rum Runner, Planters Punch, Bahama Mama) the same way and no customer has every telled the difference!! Ounce light rum, ounce dark or spiced rum, half OJ, half pineapple, splash grenadine, roll it...women love it!! Mai Tai i add half ounce Amaretto...

  • @everydaydrinkers oh, lol still awesome.

  • @nerdtronic5000 The original recepie calls for 17 year old J Wray&Nephew rum (which is not produced for a long time), lime juice, orgeat syrup, sugar syrup and triple sec, nothing else. Trader Vic changed his recepie (as far as I know) in the '50s, after he was out of the original rum bcs he had to find a combination which was similar to the first version in taste. This recepie used both Jamaican and Martinique rum.

  • Guys cool

  • @nerdtronics5000

U should do a video next time

  • @everydaydrinkers I find that bagged Ice ruin the drink more than fridge ice...especially when you got nothing inside your freezer to taint the ice. At least here...bagged ice tastes bad

  • This is a Mai Tai recipe but nothing close to the Trader Vic's recipe. The original recipe called for a single rum that no longer exists. To simulate the flavor of that rum today you need a dark Jamacian and a Martinique together. Today Trrader Vics uses it's own rum. They also use a sugar syrup that is not exactly simple syrup. You also used twice as much orgeat as you should have and the garnish should be spent lime shell. You can crush ice with a hammer and baggie.
