i have really realy old ones from the 30s still in mint condition. I lovethem so much they are sooo cute. My mom gotthem as a gift as a girl from a russian friend of hers.

There are new Russian dolls in the shops now that talk. You pull a string and so do they in talking bribes!

Yuck. The tackiest, ugliest Matryoshkas I have ever seen. Mass production of something as unique and beautiful as a Matryoshka should be considered a crime!
This is mass production of a cheap type of doll - where images are printed/glued and not handpainted. These are not the methods for which collectible dolls are made, which are handpainted in excrutiating detail. I have seen handpainted dolls made. Much different process.

Exactly, as the goal was to meet the schedule and the budget. Moreover, Discovery Channel's characters handpainted in excrutiating details would look strange.
