  • my father just got a 1995 jeep wrangler. i dont understand what a YJ is, but my friend has a Rio Grande and its real nice, thanks for explaining the difference, i was also curious. i did notice the cloth seat as you said. do you recommend a jeep wrangler as a used car? do they tend to last a long time? just curious im going to do more research. thank you.

  • I had mine for 12 years ... so I guess I have to recommend it! I had problems in the first year, but after that pretty trouble-free. electrics can be a problem, see earlier, but easy to fix if you get there before wierd things happen. Only other problem was with the gear box (5th gear).

  • That's a pretty nice YJ.

I'm 16 years old and I'm about to get a 1995 Jeep Wrangler Rio Grande.

Not sure if you can answer my question, but what is the difference between a regular YJ and a YJ Rio Grande?

  • Not much: Rio Grande has cloth-faced seats, carpet, stereo radio and top bar with 2 extra speakers as standard + a sticker or two!

Warning: check the electric cables around connectors - the insulations tend to crack and the wires short out. If you get there first it takes 5 mins to cut out the damage, if it happens in the middle of nowhere late at night .... you can giess the fun!

  • YJ is the model that has the square headlights

  • you really have had it for 12 years neil? I wonder what strange looks you get for driving a left hand drive Jeep down the road instead of a RHD Landrover over there lol

  • a jeep is not a jeep if it isn't a stick :)

  • dont get a 2.5 L because they dont have any pickup at all so go for a 4.0L They are the best

  • Interior badges and a sticker. No performance differences.

  • Man, I only had my jeep for about 2 or 3 weeks and I have a dead piston in one of my cylinders.

But man, I really do love that YJ. I take it everywhere.

I'm not so surprised about the busted piston. My YJ has about 180,000 miles and was previously worked on. So, something was bound to give eventually. I mean, my mother got it at an auction in Atlanta, Georgia for 4,500. It's in great shape but the engine needs to be throughly inspected.

  • Thanks for your reply. Mine is a 5 Speed as well.

    Connectors? Connectors for what?
