If only he took up the mantle as the voice for non-radical muslims. He would be a much needed and well respected voice for the (what I have been told but have yet to see) majority of Muslims who disagree wholeheartedly of the Fundementalist nutjobs who want to blow up buildings in the name of "peace".
@FATAL12SKILLZ Yes, you can say that. Once facts have been established, they become knowledge. If someone THEN is unfamiliar with those facts, we can say that the knowledge regarding blah blah thing exists, but that person does not know it.
@KindredSouls you can't say knowledge is created by humans, creation, is something that is invented. You can say that humans organize knowledge, extract knowledge, If we don't know something or have not realized it yet does that mean it is not knowledge? No of course not it is knowledge but you do not KNOW it.
@FATAL12SKILLZ Physical laws will exist with or without knowledge. It's only facts and truths that exist. Knowledge is the realization of these truths. Since knowledge comes only after due inquiry of these facts, I believe he is justified in saying that knowledge is created by humans.
It is to be expected that Hoodbhoy's remarks about the depressed state of science in orthodox Islamic nations would lead to the crass rejoinders one hears from ignorant people who know only what they have been told by even more ignorant teachers.
what an asshole! Who the hell says that Quran is the book of Science? If a person or 2 says that its a book of science, even though i never came across a single person, still it doesnt mean that Quran is book of Science....it contains some statement that has science in it but it;s not teaching humans; "science". What an idiot! Plz stick to your nuclear physics, ur analysis sucks!
How can knowledge be created by Humans? Did the laws of physics become discovered when scientists started writing there books on the subject? No of course not, it was always there, People analyze and extracted the knowledge.
What a dishonest fellow he is! He does not give the full history of the Muslims! Does he forget that Al Mamun is the one who helped the Mutazalites? Nonetheless the Asharis were NOT the orthodox and they became the orthodox (or the majority) very late in Islamic history.
He actually praised Al Mamun as a liberal! I guess he is right liberals today persecute innocent people today and so did Al-Mamun, he forgets that he tortured the Scholars of Islam and tried to make his ideology reign by threatening the scholars of Islam. By The standards (which is really no standard because the atheist has no real criteria) of Hoodhboy Al Mamun was a very staunch person, Al Mamun fought the greeks and plus Harun Rashid was a very pious Muslim.
Remember, he is not famous for his science (he is not even a top scientist in Pakistan, let alone the world) but for his anti-Islam/Muslim and anti-Pakistan stance. I wouldn't know him if he wasn't that. This is the agenda he has carried all his life - he has been persistent. Rationality, questioning, challenging etc are good as long as you don't question or challenge him. He is a bigot, & thinks he knows it all. A good speaker, yes sure, but I sometimes wonder who writes his speeches for him??
