-
truly one of the most beautiful profound performances as well as written music in all of the piano literature, sounds more amazing every time i hear it
-
Gilels Barenboim Richter Kempff - giants

My comment in English:
Ronald Brautigam (a Dutch pianist) doesn't know why the first 2 notes at the adagio's begin are there, but, he says, these are the most beautiful notes in the piano literature ever written.
-
Ronald Brautigam weet niet waarom die 2 noten aan het begin van het adagio er staan, maar, zei hij, het zijn de mooiste noten uit de hele pianolitteratuur.

@Jeffbear1 couldn't disagree more, I think you're refering to radio music, in which case I'd tell you, you aren't looking hard enough!
Yes this is Beautiful, but remember why we love Beethoven, because he is the HERO of music, the one that began his own individual style which has been increasing between artists and genres to this day

absolutely heart-breakingly beautiful..Gilels never ceases to amaze me.I sometimes think why modern day pianist bother to rerecord these masterpieces(the hammerklavier in particaulr)since Gilel's interpretation here speaks such absolute truth and pathos,i cant possibly envisage a more complete and transcendental rendition...

@svik65 This, and a live Richter performance, are my preferred recordings of this sonata...the Barenboim was my first exposure to this piece, and with all due respect to the Maestro who has many wonderful qualities and a superb technique, I was left very cold by that recording and this sonata took me a long time to familiarize myself with...it was Gilels who made me fall in love with it.
-
Just wonderful. I have no words. I ever prefer it over Maestro Barenboim version.

Gilels was among the music-Gods when I was a child and teenager, il n'a pas prit un ride after all these years. I think he will live for ever.
This music will live forever. Where will today's garbage music be in hundreds of years from now? I actually feel sorry for the many people who can't appreciate something beautiful like this. We here listening to Emil Gilels perform this piece have a special gift to be able to appreciate and enjoy it. Be thankful.........

in his last recrdng of this glorious mystical piece for DG, Gilels said that a heavy burden had finally been lifted off hs shoulders. Rest in Peace among the Gods, maestro... ye Olympian of the keyboard. sd goh (malaysia)
