The Tri-cycle front spindle are each 5 degree off horizontal. So, had to devise a way of using an offset center in a block to re-machine the worn spindles for new bearings and grease seals.
The blocks are threaded 7/8-14 to match the spindles with a 1/2-13 set screw to tighten on the flat provided on the spindle.
To get the offset centerdrill hole, indicate spindle and drill slowly.
To do the other spindle simply swap locations of the threaded fixtures. Works great!

  • but how you finde the cinterline in the tilestike

  • @shayebmh , Drill and tap the rectangular metal piece to fit the spindle threads. Put spindle in chuck clamping on the end you want to machine first. Turn on lathe and very slowly and carefully centerdrill rectangular block that is wobbling. Now you can un-chuck spindle, pull it out and clamp on round threaded fixture and put live center in the piece you just centerdrilled. Don't forget to tighten set screws on the flats of spindle!! Hope this helps.

  • What's your spindle speed with that setup?

  • I had it turning 360 rpm. Any faster and the lathe starts to shake somewhat. Based on the color of the chips, that is fast enough. Pretty good metal in those spindles, yes sir. Thanks for the kind remarks.

  • Thats looks like a good job, well done. I thought it was going to take off when you started the lathe up, the spindle speed looks more like 3600rpm on the film! Just an illusion obviously.

  • Yeah, your right. I find that the lower carbon steels machine well at blue heat. You are a brave man!

  • Well done!
