An ideal RES turtle tank setup

A brief explanation of basking area construction :

The box is just a wooden storage box you would get in a hobby shop. More like a crate or something.

The ramp is just a part of a shampoo/soap stand that you would hang onto your shower. So it is water proof and right size.

To connect the ramp onto the box I used a sort of a clip which you stick onto your fridge and stick a pencil into. But I got rid of the magnet and instead nailed that into the box. So instead of the pen, the last rung of the ramp goes into it.

To keep the ramp at an angle I used thin wires to hang them (like a castle moat gate). But made sure the wires were thick enough for my babies to see them and not run into them.

The crate is deliberately off-balanced outside the tank (so there is no risk of bulbs falling in the tank). But the black mesh thing is wired onto a hook on the tank wall to keep the crate from toppling out.

A non-slip material wrapped around the ramp, and a soft table mat covering their basking area.

i think it is funny that you say not pebbles or anything, do you think that the ponds in the wild these guys live in dont have stones or pebbles and othre stuff they could possibly swallow. they have been living out there just fine for years. i do how ever see the point you are trying to make, and have no issue with the way you have done anything..i just think it is funny that people freak out abou this kinda stuff.

You may say it is ideal, but it will only be ideal for a short amount of time, since RES grow quite quickly, but I assume you have most likely gotten a larger tank by now.
