Data dashboards to support improved decision-making

The Performance Information & Decision Support (PIDS) team at NHS Isle of Wight provide management information to a range of customers. The purpose of this initiative has been to automate data provision and improve the way information is presented. Interactive dashboards, designed in-house using dedicated software, have been used to drive the project. Key areas of success using these dashboards include monitoring 18-week performance; GP engagement in reducing referral to secondary care; and a move away from paper Board performance reports to interactive reviews. As a result, the PIDS team is now able to focus on real 'value add' analysis. This was a shortlisted entry in the 2011 NHS Isle of Wight Awards. Visit www.iow.nhs.uk/awards
