using the SP-404 to sequence and tweak effects on a few elements of a track I made in Bhajis Loops. the individual channels from Bhajis were recorded onto separate pads of the 404 to play around with on the fly

  • Great beat man. I recently got a sp-404 and i was wondering how do you record a track from it to the computer? I know i can plug into the line in but i cant seem to find how to solo pads so i can record them on different tracks. I saw the version on sound cloud and i was wondering your method so it can be mixed on a daw.

  • Hey dude, to record -plug the SP's outputs into your soundcard, record the signal using your DAW. You can mute pads with the Isolator effect so that your choice of pads is playing for each track you record. Then, align your recorded tracks and mix as you like. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching, peace.

  • can you make use of the onboard effects of the machine by simply passing prerecorded tracks "through" it via the line in/out without having to record to the 404

  • yes, it can work just as an effects box if needed.

  • i think you are confused - this is a song that i made, not a DJ-style mashup where you have to beatmatch disparate elements. i am using the 404 to perform the song, the song itself was written in Bhajis.

  • Thanks for your quick answer. But that means you have to hit the buttons (for example for the piano note or drums) really at the right time. Because if you miss it for just a second one will notice that things don't fit after some bars. Is that so?

  • hi : ) the drums match the melody because they were programmed at the same BPM. each discrete sound (piano note, bass drum, snare drum etc) was originally separate. i have rendered that song into separate channels to be performed from the 404 as 'parts'. thanks for watching

  • Nice work. I have a q you might be able to answer me. I got a 404 too, but never really got along well with it.

At 0:35 and later at 1:50 you add the drums. But how can you make the drums fit to the melody playing from the beginning? Can you sequence it? If so how?

    Thank you for your answer

  • thanks man, got more videos coming soon :)

  • the dopeness. Make more videos! I'm getting the 404 soon, hoping to do loop based stuff like this
